First of all I have to say, that I really appreciate this idea of Crossroads! It's nice to be able to read the news from Limburg in English. I'm Iiris almost 23-year-old girl originally from Finland, but I've been living around Europe for 4 years already. This is my second year in Maastricht, and I just recently found Crossroads and hopefully I will get in contact with the community as well.
However, I have something on my mind as well. As I'm a student, I'm looking for a part-time job, or something to do once in while. It came to my mind that maybe there are expat-families with children as well, and I'd love to do some babysitting! I'm not sure if this is the right way to contact, but it is worth trying. As it is difficult to find a part-time job as a non-dutch speaker, or with quite limited Dutch skills, I thought I'd give it a go this way.

I was very interested in your recent article in De Limburger. I'm a Dutch ex-expat. who, after having lived in the UK and France for altogether 20 years, grossly underestimated the resettlement in my own country ( being even a Limburger and having a Maastrichtse husband!). Although I never had problems living abroad, and absolutely loved it, I recognize a lot of the problems expats will encounter when first arriving here. I would be interested in setting up an informal organisation for welcoming newcomers to this town, helping them with finding their way in practical matters such as accommodation, schools, shopping, leisure etc, and kickstart their social life.I have some, be it limited, experience in this area.
If you could get me in touch with anyone from the English-speaking expat community who might be interested in developing this idea further, I could start off with an English language coffeemorning in my house.
Kind regards, Nicole de Vries

I'mlooking for an English writers' group/circle in Maastricht or the general area (In Belgium would also be fine). Does anyone know if such a group exists?
