Fall 2008 agenda: Maastricht Debates

In the fall of 2008, Maastricht Debates continues with its successful formula of lively debates on current issues of globalisation, European relations and international cooperation.

The thematic focus for the 2008-2009 programme is twofold: i) on the role of Europe in the World, economically, socially, politically and culturally. And – more specific – ii) on how we are handling the so-called Global Public Goods, in particular ´Strengthening the international trading system´.

Maastricht Debates is organising two events combining discussion with movies and documentaries:

BLACK COFFEE
Tuesday September 16 at 7.30 PM
Venue: Lumière Cinema

Film Forum, on international coffee trade and the position of producers.

Featuring the documentary Black Gold, after which a discussion with Bärbel Weiligmann of the Coffee Coalition, moderated by Prof Peter van den Bossche, Head of the Department of International and European Law, University Maastricht

FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT…
Monday – Wednesday November 17-19
Venue: Lumière Cinema

Evening festival with film and debate on Migration and the European Union

Organised together with Maastricht School of Governance, Studium Generale, and Lumière

Subject 1. European migration policy

Subject 2. Human trafficking

Subject 3. Migration from Eastern Europe

Subject 4. Cultural Identity

OCTOBER AND DECEMBER DEBATES

In cooperation with Society of International Development (SID), Maastricht Debates will organise in October and December its usual public debates. The dates and keynote speakers are still to be confirmed.

Maastricht Debates is a platform for debate and networking on issues of international cooperation and globalisation. Each debate is organised by issue experts from within the Maastricht network together with internationally oriented study associations.

Maastricht Debates is a collaborate initiative of the University Maastricht, the Netherlands Chapter of the Society for International Development (SID), the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM), Europe-open, Lumière Cinema, and Concordantia, the study association of the European Studies program of the University Maastricht. It receives financial support by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (NCDO) and operates in collaboration with the Municipality of Maastricht.
